Ephedra..A gift of breath

Until you can't pull in a satisfying breath of air you don't understand what it is like for someone with asthma.

While growing up in PA I remember from a young age always having lung and breathing issues. I would also cough a lot. My parents took me several times to the doctor but no one said the word, asthma.
So I didn't think about not getting out and being active. We didn't watch tv, or play video games when we were young. We were out playing in the woods, down by the creek or exploring the old abandoned houses in the neighbor.

Things that make us happiest we should surround ourselves with.

Can we love our jobs?
To be able to go to work each day and love what you do..should that be legal? Is it really a job if you want to go everyday and they pay you?
Find what you love and do that and you'll never work a day in your life.
Now I know someone famous said that but I don't know who because I have been saying it for years. I am blessed to do what I love.
In this country we are blessed to be able to pick something as a career and find schooling to make it so. Some of us know at an early age what we should be doing but many struggle not know where we fit in.

Chocolate, can it be good for me?

Dark Chocolate
You may have heard that dark chocolate might be good for you. What a lovely thought. Dark chocolate is richer in cocoa and with the cocoa comes powerful antioxidant flavoniods called flavonals these include procyanidins, epicatechins, and catechins," explains Harold Schmitz, PhD. Thankfully you  don't need to be able to pronounce them to get the benefits.

Studies have shown that people with high blood levels of flavonoids have lower risk of heart disease, lung cancer, prostate cancer, asthma, and type 2 diabetes.

Chives, just another onion?

Chives are another gardeners favorite..

Not only do the make things tastier, if you put them in most gardens they will come back again next year and in spring produce a beautiful purple flower.

They are in the onion family so have a similar taste. The Chinese name, jewel among vegetables..They feel the stronger the smell the more effective their healing power. They are rich in iron and vitamins and are a mild antibiotic and they are known to cleanse the blood.
Planted near your roses makes them produce a more fragrant flower and also keep the aphids away.

Basil (fresh), one of summers best herbs

Basil fresh from the garden, added to your favorite dish or made into a Pesto
2cps basil leaves cleaned, relatively dry pressed into the measuring cup
 1 cp virgin olive oil
 1/2 cp pine nuts
 1/2 cp Parmesan cheese
  2 cloves of garlic
 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
 salt to taste

Basil, Pesto a gardeners pure pleasure.

Pesto, not only tasty but so good for you
2 cups fresh basil leaves
3/4 cup of virgin olive oil
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/2 cup finely grated parmesan cheese
2 cloves of garlic
salt and lemon to taste

combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend well adding more oil if needed.

This little fragrant power house is packed with vitamins and minerals and also know to be nutritionally rich in anti-aging antioxidants.

Its used and added to the diet as an anti-inflammatory so it great for any joint inflammation, all things digestive and in an essential oil for different types of headaches.

Florida, just sweaty and full of bugs the size of my shoe?

When we were youngsters growing up, we were fortunate to have a father who could take the summers off. He taught us with the spirit of adventure to explore all that was around us and this country.

In our travel trailer, pulled by the Cadillac of the day, we would pack up, in PA then make our way cross country to CA and stay with my aunt, uncle and my cousins for a few weeks. Before getting there we camped in many states, at some really amazing campgrounds. ( stories for another time.) I wish they had FB back then.

Add more fruits and veggies to your diet.

Adding Fruits and veggies to your diet can be a challenge if your not into them..The trick is to make them taste awesome so you enjoy them and are not just eating them as if they were cardboard..
There are so many health benefits to eating them. They are much lower in fat and calories then other foods and contain.

Photo-nutrients, again the colors in food that fight off cancer, heart disease and many other things.
Dietary fiber. The part of the plant our body can't breakdown or digest.

How many colors are on your plate?

Reds, blue, purples, white, yellow, oranges and of course many shades of green. Its is proven that natural pigments are beneficial to our bodies. On the opposite side all the dyes in processed foods can cause allergic reactions and negative side affects.
A particular food pigment indicates its phytonutrient pedigree and associated health benefits. Every color adds phytonutrients that are healthful for different functions or organs in our body.
Redsin tomato, watermelon, strawberry, apples is a great guard against cancer and lung disease.

Don't fry bacon in the nude..

Well did that get your attention?
The Chinese feel that this should be your biggest and best meal of the day. Breakfast like a King.

Well when I first get up in the morning I can't eat a thing..I want my coffee and a little news.
However to start my liver and get ready for the digestion of food, I might want to drink some fresh lemon squeezed in tepid water. Then take a little time while the news in on to put together a yummy and healthy breakfast.

Why not cut up some fresh fruit as its that time of year.
